“Western Standards in a Cuban Location”

Whatever you think about Cuba or Trinidad, this is as good as casas particulares get. Architecturally the house is not as impressive as some in the larger towns, but the service certainly is.The accommodation is well enough described in other entries, as is the wonderfully warm welcome from the hosts. When we were there (end-Feb 2009) the terrace dining experience was draughtier than ideal - we battled against gales by weighing down the tablecloth, cruets, etc by leaning chairs against the table edge. Much more impressive was the first sight of the food when it arrived: a selection of well cooked stuff on a huge 20-inch plate (for each of us!). The food itself was well enough prepared but, try as I may, I can not see how anyone could call it Italian as one othe entry did.

The interesting bits of Trinidad are all about 10 minutes walk away and can be seen in a couple of days. Recommendations: stay no more than 2 days; eat at Hostal Milagros; drink beer (the Cuban wine is barely drinkable and imported Spanish has a lot of travel miles attached to it); take an evening walk up the hill behind the main plaza; do not under any circumstances hire a car (for various reasons, not the leat of which is that all factories seem to be engaged only in the manufacture of signs perpetuating the revolutionary zeal).
